Experimental Physics and Outreach
Before specialising in radio astronomy, I worked on small experimental-physics projects that combined sensors, electronics, software, and science communication.
Project work
One project involved building a force sensor and computer programme to analyse a gymnast’s landing for the Gymnastics Hall of Fame. Another involved constructing circuits to control stepper motors through a LabVIEW interface. I also analysed smartphone pixel arrangements to help explain the advantages of OLED displays.
Physics outreach
Alongside this work, I helped create and present demonstrations spanning superconductors, lasers, electricity and magnetism, liquid nitrogen, amorphous metals, supercooled cleaning, and photoluminescence. These activities provided early experience in turning technical ideas into tangible, accessible explanations.
