A Dense Sample of FRB 121102 Bursts
This study reanalysed observations of the first known repeating fast radio burst and expanded a densely sampled burst catalogue by 93 detections.
Overview
We reanalysed the data used by Gourdji et al. (2019) with a single-pulse search pipeline and detected 93 additional bursts. The resulting dense sample offered an opportunity to test whether burst arrival times showed evidence for repeating structure over short timescales.
My main contribution was the periodicity analysis. I used the Lomb–Scargle method to search for trends over periods from 100 milliseconds to 1,000 seconds. No statistically significant periodicity was found in this analysis or in the study’s other search methods.
